CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Our two week intensive program entails daily dance classes in neo-traditional and popular Ghanaian dance and music. You will learn about Ghanaian culture and society and gain a first hand experience on interculturalism through the arts. 

The warmth and energy of Ghana’s rich culture draw you in from the moment your plane touches down. This coastal nation is overflowing with historical landmarks, vibrant beaches, bustling markets and stunning nature parks. Enjoy great cuisine, attend cultural festivals, performances by K)FA Performing Arts Company and meet many of Ghana’s progressive leaders, artists and educators.

  • Introduction to basic Akan language to help participants get acquainted with the locals. Learn general greetings and phrases

During your two week stay, you will spend 7 days in our performing arts intensive workshop (32 hours of instruction) with Ghana’s master instructors. You will train daily in Ghanaian neo-traditional dances from various ethnic groups such as Akan, Ga Adangbe, Ewe and dances from the Northern part of Ghana. 

Music workshops will entail traditional drumming where you learn various polyrhythmic drum patterns as well as proper technique in beating the drum. You will be taught to understand the drum language and how to incorporate drum patterns to specific dances. You will also learn traditional songs, their meanings, history and song origins. 

The final week will consist of a tourist excursion around main attractions where our experienced tour guides will accompany you for scheduled events to various local sites. 

Cost

Pricing: $700 (USD) per person *Groups of 10 or more pay $650 per person 

Housing accommodation and airport pick up will be arranged prior to your arrival. Airfare, visas, and any applicable vaccines (yellow fever) are at the expense of each participating person.  We are able to assist with booking flights upon request.

$400 + 3% processing fee 

The non-refundable deposit is required by:

Session I: October 30th  Session II: April 30th

 

Full payment must be made in full by:

Session I: January 15th

Session II May 30th

REQUIREMENTS

Visa Requirement

All nationalities require a visitor’s visa to travel to Ghana. A visa is an endorsement issued by Ghana authorities before your departure. The visitor’s visa grants you permission to enter and reside in Ghana. A return airline ticket is not required to obtain a student visa.

 

We recommend that you use the Ghanaian Consulate in Houston to process your rush visa. They only offer rush (same day) processing. Follow the directions on their website and contact them directly with questions. 

 

Certificate of Yellow Fever Immunization

The government in Ghana requires yellow fever vaccination before arrival. Upon arrival at the airport, you may need to present a valid international certificate of yellow fever vaccination or you will not be allowed to stay in the country.
